About the film:

Narrated by family member Cass Warner Sperling (Harry Warner’s granddaughter), the 60-minute film gives an insider look at these original Hollywood independent filmmakers and their varied personalities and business sense: the little-known major player, Harry Warner; Albert or “Honest Abe”; visionary Sam; and volatile Jack. Rare archival footage, family photos, and documents trace their scrappy rise from nothing, along with the personal tragedies and professional battles they overcame along the way.

From opening their first storefront theater by hanging a sheet on the wall and borrowing chairs from a funeral parlor to creating one of the top studios in America, these four brothers built an empire on a dream and revolutionized Hollywood, and were the first to use mass media to “educate, entertain, and enlighten.”

Tour of Polish Mission with Ceil Jensen and Marcin Chumiecki

Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Marcin Chumiecki  Ceil Wendt Jensen

This event will continue as planned despite the tragic death of the Polish president, his wife, and 95 other people in a plane crash in Western Russia. There will be a short ceremony in their honor.

This event will highlight newly-discovered "yearbooks" with thousands of signatures of Jewish children.

Marcin Chumiecki, Director of the Polish Mission of Orchard Lake Schools, invites the Jewish Genealogical Society of Michigan to campus. Chumiecki and Ceil Wendt Jensen, Genealogist, will present the holdings of the Association of Former Political Prisoners of German and Soviet Concentration Camps. Opened in 1990, the collection holds uniforms, documents [including signatures of Jewish students from Mlawa, Olkusz and other Polish towns, camp art, and memoirs of Displaced Persons who settled in Michigan.] These former Polish citizens were incarcerated in Auschwitz, Dachau, Gross Rosen, Mauthausen, and the Soviet Gulag. The artwork of Jan Komski is featured. Komski’s artwork features both Jewish and Catholic inmates – he depicted both the Star of David and the red triangle with a black P which depicted political prisoners. The first part of the lecture is in the handicap-accessible Adam Cardinal Maida Library and the second part of the lecture requires climbing several flights of stairs in the “Ark” Building.
