The Nine Most Important Words You Need To Know Before Making An Ancestral Visit To Eastern Europe

Presented by Sol Sylvan

Sol Sylvan will explain what it takes to make a successful trip to Eastern Europe, the “Trip of a Lifetime.” He will explain how personal motivation and goals will determine the nature of the journey. Sol will give practical suggestions on hiring guides and translators, how to do advance preparations, how to make travel arrangements, how to deal with money, food, appropriate clothing to take, what types of cameras and recording devices to use, etc. The presentation will deal with insurance, health and safety. It will also discuss costs of the trip, etc. A video of his 2004 visit will be shown.

Sol Sylvan spent his first 43 years in Southeast Michigan. He now lives in the State of Washington. He received a BA in History from Wayne State University in Detroit, and did his graduate work in anthropology at the University of Michigan. He is actively involved in his own family research and in helping others online. Between 2002 and 2005 Sol made four visits to Eastern Europe, including Warsaw, Krakow, Western Ukraine, the Carpathians and more. Sol will be returning to Poland and Ukraine with two of his daughters, granddaughter, a second cousin, and a friend in July of 2007.
