Abstract City Directory—Unique Uses
RESCHEDULED - DATE TBD

Guest Speaker: Diane Freilich, JGSMI Vice President of Membership

Diane FreilichThe city directory was usually published on an annual basis starting from the mid 1860’s for each city/town. A treasure trove of information is contained within these directories from alphabetical residential listings, occupations and household names to business listings and history of the municipality. The city directory is a stepping stone to a myriad of resources.

A PowerPoint Presentation

This program will demonstrate use of the city directory to chart known and unknown family member branches and their whereabouts and occupations.

The city directory will enhance your ability to locate census, naturalization, newspaper, court records, obituaries and other useful research sources. Usually the city directory will present information of the history of the town/city. You will benefit from the advertising and knowledge of the business directory as well as the reverse address directory.

The key to using the city directory is CHARTING. Charting city directory events over a period of time will enhance your appreciation of the lives of your relatives.
